An official determination letter and a statement of figures on a desk beside reading glasses and a pen
Continuing professional development

The financial side of SRDP and permanent impairment, made clear.

Two modules for IVA members and veterans' advocates, paid and volunteer. What the letters actually mean, where the money genuinely sits, where advocacy stops and financial advice starts, and how to stand beside a stressed veteran at the moment a permanent decision gets made.

Scope of advice

These modules are general information for professional development only. Nothing in them is personal financial advice, tax advice or legal advice, and no product or fee content is included. Advocacy stops where financial advice starts.

Your progress is saved locally to this device to protect your privacy. Please complete a module on the same device you started it on to generate your CPD record.

Rationale

Why these sessions exist

01

Nil is not nil

Very large entitlements sit behind determinations that present as zero, and behind offer letters nobody finishes reading. This module walks through the mechanics that produce those figures.

02

Arms length, demonstrably

Good advocacy shows its working. A clear referral process and a documented file let anyone see the veteran's interests came first.

03

The human side

Most bad permanent decisions are made by exhausted people asked a very large question on a very bad day. Removing false urgency costs one sentence.

For every advocate

Practice that already works, made available to everyone

Whether you advocate in a paid practice or as an ESO volunteer, the questions that arrive are the same. Referral protocols, file standards and document checklists already exist because people have invested time building them on live files.

These modules and tools put that work in one place, ready to use immediately. No sharp learning curve, and no starting from a blank page case by case.

A letter arrives, and the next step is already built

  1. 01A veteran asks about SRDP, or a permanent impairment letter arrives from DVA.
  2. 02The advocate, or the veteran, completes the veteran advice request.
  3. 03A financial adviser does the complex analysis and confirms by email when it is done.
  4. 04The advocate follows on with the veteran with clarity, not doubt.

The modules

Module 1

SRDP: the financial reality behind the letter

Special Rate Disability Pension is the biggest, least understood financial decision in the MRCA system. This module closes the gap for IVA members and veterans' advocates, paid and volunteer.

2 hours · 5 lessons · 7 case studies

Open module
Abstract figure of several flat nil-value discs beside one tall stack, representing value hidden behind a nil determination
  1. 1What SRDP actually is, and the choice it forces
  2. 2Why "nil" is not nil
  3. 3The mechanics advocates are never shown
  4. 4Case studies: what was hiding behind the letter
  5. 5The advocate's SRDP checklist
Module 2

Permanent Impairment: compliance, conflict and the critical moment

Where money decisions get made under stress, and where advocacy either protects a veteran or exposes them. Plus a simple referral protocol that keeps every file clean and checkable.

2.5 hours · 8 lessons · 3 case studies

Open module
Abstract figure of two open hands separated by a measured gap, representing an arms-length handover
  1. 1The PI landscape: where the money decisions actually sit
  2. 2The window that only opens once: letter issued, advice taken, then signed and returned
  3. 3Conflict of interest in practice
  4. 4The line you cannot cross, and the file note that protects you
  5. 5The human side: decision fatigue at the worst moment
  6. 6The real value of the right referral
  7. 7Case studies: weekly or lump sum, and what the choice really costs
  8. 8A referral protocol you can adopt as-is

How the sessions are delivered

  • Self-paced modules, usable on a phone between appointments.
  • Knowledge checks with worked reasoning, and an 80% pass mark for a completion record.
  • De-identified case studies drawn from real reporting work.
  • A printable CPD record at the end of each module.
  • No accounts, no sign-in, nothing collected about you.

Scope and independence

Arms length by design: no fee sharing, no commission, no reciprocal referral arrangement and no product content. Module 2 applies that same test to the attendee's own practice.
